  • The Opportunity

    The Product Manager (PM) has a key role in the development and operation of profitable online products, BSI’s retail product and Standards Development, within BSI’s Knowledge Solutions (KS) business. As part of the Product Management team, the PM will act as the “voice of the customer” ensuring customer requirements are at the heart of all product development and management activities.


    This is a multi-faceted, technical and commercial role that requires that the PM consider and articulate the strategic “big picture”, whilst being involved in the finer detail of product proposition research, design, validation, analysis, delivery and management.


    Reporting to the Lead Product Manager (LPM) the PM will be part of a small team and also part of a wider matrix team, co-ordinating activities across all streams of the BSI business – Marketing, IT, Content Solutions, Customer Relations, Sales and Standards Development – to drive effective performance, product delivery and meet customer need.


    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

    • Play a key role in the management of BSI’s flagship retail website, working with the LMP, Product Management team, commercial teams, and technical development team to add value to the product.
    • The PM will work closely with the business and technical development team to translate customer requirements into functional specifications, active participation in the development, testing and on-going enhancement of their products.
    • Apply commercial acumen to initiatives that the PM is responsible for, collaborate with cross-functional teams on initiatives, and provide robust validated evidence for and building of commercially justified business cases.
    • Develop, drive, prioritise and own the product lifecycle, development roadmap, it’s timeline and dependencies for our Standards Development website.
    • Manage new idea proposals from across the business into the development pipeline.
    • Act as the “voice of the customer” driving customer insight and market research, gathering customer requirements (e.g. through customer visits, analysing existing research and data and initiating new research) to underpin decisions in the development on the Shop and ecommerce.
    • Continually monitor, analyse and report on product performance (e.g. through use of sales data, Google Analytics etc.) and continually review business performance against objectives to ensure competitiveness.
    • The role will liaise with marketing, sales, technology development, project management, customer support, committee services, sector teams, content solutions and editorial.

    About You

    • Direct experience of working with online ecommerce products/services for product development or technical support capacity.
    • Demonstrable experience of gathering and analysing customer feedback, product usage information e.g. through Google Analytics or similar. 
    • Experience working closely with matrix teams including product development, marketing, sales, customer support and in particular technical project teams. 
    • At least intermediate skills in most Microsoft Office products, but especially Excel
    • Demonstrable experience of responding to customer need.
    • Working knowledge of software development methodologies.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or commercial/business experience.
    • Experience working in B2B environment or STEM publishing is highly desirable
    • Results driven, analytical, resourceful and problem-solving outlook.
    • Excellent communications skills: written, informal and formal presentations.
    • Determined, self-motivated, with initiative.
    • Team player, able to work as part of different matrix teams.
