  • The Opportunity

    Purpose of Position

    The key purpose of the position is to build and maintain the necessary level of sustainable profitability in China to support continuous investment to build a £50 million business with a Management Operating Profit of £5million in a medium term goal of 5 years.

    In achieving this the candidate will need to demonstrate the skills and experience to develop and drive profitable business growth strategies for the country and to provide the country team leadership, vision and energy as necessary to ensure the full business potential is realized whilst maintaining, upholding and promoting the integrity of BSI products, services and reputation.

    This position is accountable for successfully executing the BSI Group, APAC and Country business strategy in China.  The leadership position is responsible for driving our Vision and Strategic Objectives, these are to:

    1. Ensure all BSI employees live by our credo Making Excellence a Habit for our Clients and for BSI’s own business
    2. Be number 1 in Innovation and product pipeline development
    3. Be 1st to market in capacity and capabilities
    4. Be best in class Sector Focus – Messaging, Packaging & Bundling for core sectors
    5. Grow the business from £20 million to £50 million with 10% minimum Operating Profit within 5 years


    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

    • Leadership to Set and Understand Strategic Direction
      • Strong market understanding and knowledge of competitors, demonstrates the ability to evaluate market opportunities for BSI to develop a new non-regulated business in parallel to our current core business.
      • Understands strategy and maps out the longer term plan for the business, able to translate the strategy into business activities and execute as short term plans
      • Keeps abreast and react positively to changing market expectations and developments to benefit the business
      • Fully understands the need for local accreditation and leads the process of obtaining and maintaining this status in line with Regional direction
      • Capability in building and maintaining constructive relationships with relevant government bodies so as to secure current and long term interests for BSI group in China
    • Creates Alignment (Aligns and Cascades business plans & values in a transparent environment)
      • Interprets and localizes global strategy creatively to ensure it is understood by their teams
      • Sets realistic but challenging objectives and targets for teams that bring additional value to the business
      • Ensures sales and operational activities are aligned with business strategy

    About You

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Proven experience of with managing a business with revenue of £20 to £50m revenue, 10% Operating profits in a global matrix organisation.
    • Proven experience of attracting, developing, motivating, retaining and leading a winning team
    • Experience in a senior leadership position essential, ideally within an international matrix organisation
    • The ability to develop effective relationships, and therefore operate successfully at all levels, within and outside the organisation, is essential, together with good communication and presentation skills
    • Robust understanding of the business planning and budgetary control processes
    • Proven experience and a strong understanding of government relationships. Ability to demonstrate good understanding & personal connections with relevant government bodies at national and district level. 
    • BSI business language is English therefore good level of written and spoken English is essential
    • Out of the box thinker, self-motivated and result-driven
    • Creator and fighter with a can do mentality
    • Ability to prioritise and handle multiple work demands and pressures, with a higher the average amount of resilience
    • Commercial thinker with sound knowledge of systems certification industry would be highly advantageous
    • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines, regions and cultures
    • Ability to influence & persuade others; with an inspirational leadership style
