  • The Opportunity

    Purpose of Position

     

    The Head of Business Unit – People Development is primarily responsible for strategizing and growing the business unit and developing the people in the business unit. Aside from high-level decision making, the business unit head is also responsible for overseeing the work force of their subordinates. They must cultivate a motivated team that is adequately staffed and properly trained. Part of the responsibilities are establishing goals for individual team members, defines their functions, and establishes the parameters for performance evaluation.

     

    Key Results Areas & Principal Accountabilities

     

    The key areas of responsibility for the Head of Business Unit – People Development include: 

     

    Strategic

    • Develop the vision for the direction of the business unit and align, execute and communicate the expectation to Business Unit team members
    • Responsible for strategizing and planning budget, as well as overseeing the creation and preparation of market reports to determine what resources are needed, how those resources need to be allocated, and tracking expenditures.
    • Provides oversight to ensure that business plans and budgets are followed and manage resources in order to best manage the profit margins
    • Monitoring competitors and reviewing offerings in light of competitor’s developments

     

    Sales & Marketing

    • Provide strong leadership for sales and marketing teams to ensure the achievement of sales targets and expense control.
    • Create strong relationships with key client stakeholders at both senior and mid-management levels
    • Developing and managing relationships with potential clients, influencers and key stakeholders
    • Establish and adjust prices by monitoring costs, competition and supply and demand
    • Work closely with colleagues on cross-territory opportunities (upsell, cross-sell) and other internal teams on marketing materials
    • Direct & oversee the marketing activities such as
    • Lead and give guidance on the email marketing write ups and topics
    • Measure the effectiveness marketing activities

     

    Managing Relationships & Compliance Risk

    • Manages relationship with business partners and external resources
    • Ensuring there is no conflict of interest with compliance to ISO17021 as a certification body
    • Work closely with branch managers and sales personnel at other locations / business units for operational support
    • Participating in new business contract negotiations

     

    Operational

    • Managing operational issues in the business unit such as scheduling, sales decisions, business reporting, etc.
    • Developing course overviews & course materials
    • Customised course overviews & courses for clients when required
    • Research and develop new course materials where needed
    • Design and develop coaching programmes and leadership interventions for clients as a solution
    • Conducting trainings & facilitating workshops
    • Conduct & facilitate workshops for clients
    • Conduct coaching sessions or leadership intervention programmes for clients

     

     

    People Management

    • Develop & coach trainers to develop course overviews, develop course materials, handle customisations and conducting trainings
    • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees. As well as coaching and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results
    • Ensure that staff performance is managed appropriately and in a way that is consistent with the expectations of the Sheffield Academic, and that fair workload allocation processes are in place
    • Engender a culture of excellence, co-operation and respect both within and beyond the department
    • Make effective use of all staffing resources and seek opportunities for collaboration and joint working with others beyond the department and beyond the business unit

    About You

    • University degree or above
    • Have leadership capability
    • Strategic thinking with hands-on implementation
    • Excellent oral & written communication skills in English
    • Background in conducting/facilitating trainings and workshops
    • Experienced in developing training materials
    • able to communicate well
