  • The Opportunity

    The aim of the press office is to shift the perception of BSI, gain favourable brand awareness and positive press coverage in trade publications, magazines, online, newspapers and broadcast media.

     

    Your role Standards Public Relations Manager is vital to the press office and is needed in order to actively achieve this aim. You will be required to get positive press coverage for BSI with a core focus on the promotion of its High Revenue Earning (HRE) standards and the benefits standards bring, primarily in the trade and online media.

    • Develop, implement and measure the quarterly HRE PR plan that supports the commercial objectives for standards.
    • You will write press releases on new ‘prioritized’ HRE standards and other newsworthy issues in line with the standards commercial strategy.
    • Working in partnership with the UK PR Manager, you will regularly influence and inform the media in regards to BSI’s activities, products and achievements. You will also need to react to enquiries and requests from both the media and bloggers, arrange interviews, issue briefings and identify opportunities within trade media.
    • Strong media sell-in skills – able to brief journalists on information about specific aspects of BSI products and campaigns, and building strong working relationships.
    • You will need to establish strong working relationships with the BSI team across standards to identify and develop news stories for the media and stakeholder communications.
    • Highlighting standards activity that can be leveraged with the national media to the Head of Group PR/agency and oversee execution.
    • Monitoring the key trade media, including magazines, journals and blogs for opportunities for BSI – you will also edit and write features, articles, and papers for print and web-based media.
    • Undertaking some media relations for BSI as part of the overall communications strategy to ensure an effective approach to media relations within the UK.
    • You will establish processes to ensure corporate information is regularly updated in corporate materials e.g. key BSI facts & figures. Ensure these changes are clearly communicated to the wider marketing team.
    • Upload relevant information to the media centre and intranet on a regular basis.

    About You

    The ideal candidate will have strong demonstrable experience as a PR professional with a relevant degree level or equivalent.  You will have strong media relations skills with proven experience of developing and executing successful campaigns. You will be able to make complex issues easy to understand, with the ability to establish and maintain internal and external relationships at senior level.

     

    Excellent written and verbal skills, strong social media skills with the ability to establish and maintain networks of contacts both internally and externally. 

     

    You will be a strong team player, passionate about PR, enthusiastic, extremely well organised and self motivating. You will be able to work under pressure, and should be flexible to adapt to different situations.
